Bordeaux in Italie?

De Santa Cristina Cabernet Sauvignon wordt gemaakt in het stadje San Benedetto, aan het lago di Garda. Leuke van deze wijn is dat Franse druiven zijn gebruikt, de Cabernet Sauvignon en Cabernet Franc. Dit is dan ook de Italiaanse tegenhanger van de Bordeaux. Santa Cristina Cabernet Sauvignon is een prachtige wijn van de kleinere wijnmakerij Santa Cristina van de familie Zenato aan de oever van het Gardameer.

Het is een blend van 85% Cabernet sauvignon en 15% Cabernet franc. Het heeft aanvankelijk rijp, haast zoet fruit.  De wijn heeft een donkerrode kleur en een complexe neus. Vanille, kruiden en wilde bessen. De smaak is vol en aangenaam lang. Vol, elegant en soepel met een lange afdronk. Dit is een geweldige wijn. Het heeft 18 maanden gerijpt in een combinatie van eerste vulling en gebruikt Frans eiken, daarna een korte rustperiode in roestvrij staal, gevolgd door nog eens 6 maanden in de fles voordat het wordt vrijgegeven. Fantastisch bij een Biefstukje maar gaat ook prima bij een Mexicaanse Chili con Carne.

Santa Cristina

Santa Cristina is een prachtige kleine wijnmakerij in de buurt van het Gardameer, eigendom van en gerund door de familie Zenato. Ze maken een aantal zeer, zeer goede wijnen in een meer natuurlijke stijl dan de grotere productie “Zenato”-wijnen – die op zich zelf al iets speciaals zijn, zoals velen van jullie zullen weten. Wij zijn al jaren fan van Zenato Amarone en hun andere wijnen.

Nadia Zenato (met Carla Prospero) heeft haar eigen “Sansonina” wijnmakerij die een uitzonderlijke Merlot produceert (beschikbaar op deze pagina) en een voortreffelijke Lugana. De Santa Cristina-wijnen zijn eigenlijk gemaakt door Nadia’s broer, Alberto, en ook zij staan ​​bekend om hun uitstekende Lugana, aangezien ze eigenaar zijn van een aantal van de beste wijngaarden rond het Gardameer.

Ze produceren ook deze premium Cabernet Sauvignon. Het zit boordevol smaak en toch elegant, superzacht met een lange droge afdronk. Het smaakt natuurlijk met maar een heel lichte filtering heeft gehad. Dit is een prachtige wijn, geweldig met of zonder eten.
